2018 was a wonderful year! So many beautiful sessions with clients that I hold near and dear to my heart. One of my all time favorites is a series of sessions that capture a growing family as they made room in their home and their hearts for their sweet baby girl. The best part – this family is one of a handful of clients that I’ve had the special opportunity of photographing the second sibling since my official launch in 2014. Being able to capture newborn portraits is only made sweeter by having families trust me for the second (and hopefully one day third, fourth, …) baby, in addition to other incredibly important milestones that families will experience and want to remember.
This beautiful mom (featured in this session) and I seem to be in sync with sessions ideas. I had high hopes of capturing a lifestyle maternity session in 2018! When mom and I were discuss locations for her maternity session, we determined that a relaxed, in-home session would be the perfect setting for their active and playful 2-year-old.
For any clients that might be struggling on the best location for their maternity session, I highly consider thinking about your own home. Contained within those walls is so much more than beds, couches, tables, and electronics. Your home is the place where so many memories are made and the bonds of love are strengthen and nurtured.
We brought out meaningful toys – wood farm animals that traveled all the way from his aunt in Australia and made our best cow impressions! In 10 years, this little guy will have very different interests, but the things that make him grin right now, have been documented and preserved in a beautiful heirloom album, something I’m sure mom will pull fill through many times, even before he’s packed his bags for college.
And note those three black and white portraits in the back corner! I have the huge honor of claiming those works of art. It’s an incredible feeling to visit my client’s homes and see their treasured memories displayed and their walls!
This image above and the image below on the left are two of my three favorite images from the entire session! He’s smitten with his mama and that little lean into her, oh it melts me. And talk about a dad that can get down on the floor and play with his kids! Every time, dad breaks out some new, fun way of getting his little ones to laugh. If he’s dreading the session, I’d never know.
